Our story takes place in two eras set about 1100 years apart. In the past in the latter days of the T'Geth Empire and in the present, referred to as the common era (CE)
Mythical founder Tal an'Hra defeats local warlords and unifies the empire. The Temple of the Eternal is built at Val-Alun. At another site known as Nemet-Jal, an ancient artifact is housed, the Divine Stela, a stone column upon which is written 81 verses of veneration to God, written by the hand of God himself. During the reign of King Andarath early in this period, a priest named V'Alansis has a vision and writes a prophesy called the Codex of V'Alansis. Due to both internal and external factors the empire declines and eventually collapses after 1400 years.
This empire comes into existence shortly after the end of the T'Lin. The capital city of Val-Alun is rebuilt and the temple is greatly expanded. The Divine Stela is moved there. An era of relative peace and prosperity ensues. The prophesy of V'Alansis, lost for nearly 2000 years is discovered in 1170 of this period. About 1200 a barbarian race, the Jenn, come to power in the north and begin an expansionist policy. In 1261 during the reign of King Tamesis, the capital city is sacked and the temple destroyed. The Divine Stela is removed to safety to a secret place only months before. Society is largely destroyed by the Jenn incursion as they conquer the known world.
Years are renumbered from the destruction of the temple. No new empire exists, just a loose collection of city states and confederations that coexist in relative peace. Society has largely recovered and is roughly back to where it was at the end of the T'Geth Empire.
The Divine Stela remains lost after 1134 years. Far more than a block of stone, its recovery is critical for the continued existence of the world.
